Care & Maintenance
RUGS
All our rugs are made from natural wool, hand-woven and hand-dyed. Love, creativity, passion and affection nested in each rug needs care and proper protection in order to serve you over the years. Here is some useful information to consider:
- INSTALLATION & USE OF A RUG PAD: Unfold the rug and spread it out. If you see fold marks, don't worry, they will go away soon, the wool tissue will relax and the marks will disappear. Always use an anti-slip rug pad. It helps to prevent premature wear and possible slips. A rug pad provides extra cushioning which also helps protect the wool fibers. Never place an underlay or rug on an uncured floor surface if it has recently been sealed, laid or treated.
-
STAINS, SPILLS & DIRT: Wool contains lanolin and is naturally stain resistant. First thing to do when a liquid is spilled is to absorb it with white paper towel. Then prepare a mix of warm water, soft detergent, white vinegar and with a sponge softly press. Avoid rubbing of any kind to prevent the rug from threading. Take a clean white dry towel and remove the remaining soap. Repeat if necessary. For wet dirt and mud use paper towel, cotton cloth or a spoon to remove the solids, then vacuum clean it and apply the same soap mixture described above. Repeat if necessary. We do not recommend to use stain repellant or stain remover on your rug.
- VACUUM CLEANING: Vacuum your rug regularly without friction and without a brush. It is recommended to vacuum clean it from both sides.
- PROFESSIONAL CLEANING: If deep cleaning is needed, it is recommended to professionally DRY clean it. Never machine or hand wash the rug. This can lead to deformation and running of dyes. Never use stain repellents or stain removers on the rug.
- PREVENTING PESTS: Keep your rug in dry, clean, aired spaces and avoid dark, humid spaces with little or no air flow. Do not store a rug in a plastic bag over a long period of time. Vacuum clean it regularly on both sides. These measures will help you to prevent appearance of moths and other pests.
- SUN LIGHT: Exposure to direct sunlight can cause fading of the dyes. To avoid discoloration use curtains, blinds or screens, rotate the rug to help promote even wear.
- FLUFFING & SHEDDING: With the passage of time it is normal with hand-loomed rugs to shred. It can be fixed easily by shaving the area. Make sure you do it carefully to avoid damaging the fabric.
